Neopets Blackout Weekend

In order to support Jellyneo and the Neopets community at large, we will be joining them for their blackout weekend

Due to travel I can’t update the website properly to reflect that right now. But what this does mean is that we will not be updating or adding new pets to the site this weekend.

The blackout is due to NFTs, TNT/Jumpstart’s handling of the matter, and overt homophobia and use of slurs by people connected with the company in charge of the NFT’s. To learn more about the reasons for this protest please visit http://Jellyneo.net for more details. More discussions and details can also be found on your social media or choice (facebook, Twitter, reddit and most likely others all have discussions ongoing)

We love Neopets and the community and we do not wish to see it associated with predatory “investment” schemes.

Thanks very much for your support and updates shall return next week. Have a great (long for some of us) weekend!

We’re back(ish)

We’re aware that functionality is still limited, we’ll be continuing work on it tomorrow. Thank you all for your patience, concern, and support for the last month, it has meant a lot to us!

Feel free to send us updates or lists of pets you’ve been hoarding to get on the site, we’ll be hard at work this week and likely next getting caught up on all the activity!

Happy 20th Birthday Neopets!

It’s hard to believe that the game has been around so long now. It’s even harder to believe that we’ve been at this for over 14 years now!

In celebration Neopets have announced yet another new pet slot (coming next week)! This is great news, and means we’ll probably be extra busy as many of you come looking for new pets to adopt with all this newfound room. We can’t wait! We currently have over 40,000 pets waiting for adoption, including some well hidden gems (And if you can handle uncapped names, there’s a lot of solid gold)

We could use your help though, in keeping up with all the flurry of updates. If you adopt a pet, or notice someone else has adopted a pet, please let us know. You can use the form in the sidebar, or email us directly (lost at quiggle). I promise I’ve been really good about keeping up with all the mails lately, after an extended absence over the summer for health reasons, so they’re not a waste of time, and are super duper appreciated!

Also for all those cool cats joining the hunt for stuck pets lately, (http://www.neopets.com/~Lorrenn and http://www.neopets.com/~Tileset to learn how) please feel free to send us all the stucks you don’t want (yes even the terribly named basics, we do not discriminate here, much to the chagrin of some!)

Thank you to everyone of you who’s been with us from the beginning or joined along the way! Whether you’ve been staff, volunteered some time for updates, adopted pets, or hung out with us on the boards, THANK YOU!

Celebrating the new pet slot!

So traffic has quadrupled around here since the release of the new pet slot! The team is working around the clock to try and provide you with more awesome pets to adopt and fill your slots. Many pets are getting adopted within minutes or even seconds of being posted to the site, even pets that would normally languish for ages!

Since there are a couple hundred of you for every one of us working on the site, it means that there will be plenty of adopted pets that haven’t yet been updated. We understand that can be frustrating to see, but in order to keep up with the volume of adoptions, we need your help in reporting which pets have been adopted. You can do this by using the form in the sidebar, OR by emailing us directly at lost@quiggle.org.

Thanks for all your support and patience! Now back to the grindstone for me!

What is a stuck pet?

A stuck pet is a pet that CANNOT be found when surfing in the pound, no matter how many times you refresh. Whether a pet gets stuck or not seems to depend on the first few letters of its name. Certain strings show up in the pound, while others do not. This means that a stuck pet remains stuck whether it’s painted, morphed, adopted and repounded, etc.

They can only be found by someone knowing they’re in there (or finding a link to them, say on a search engine), or by manually trying names that fit the stuck pattern until you find one. The vast majority of the pets on this site were originally found via the manual method, aka the trial and error guessing.

This also means if you see a cool pet while surfing in the pound, it is NOT stuck, even if it doesn’t get adopted immediately. All pets that show up while surfing in the pound will eventually be adopted, even when it has a terrible name, but stuck pets will only be adopted if someone finds out their name and looks them up.

While we appreciate your urge to help, we DO NOT list pets that don’t get stuck, as by the time we get your messages they’re all already adopted. They don’t need our help to get adopted. Please don’t send us your pound surfs!

A bunch of new faces!

So we have three wonderful new faces to add our staff team (okay one of them has been on the team for months now, but I totally forgot to update!)

Huge warm welcome to Kim, Kait, and Jose!

Kim has been a longtime staff member of PetTP, but since it’s still broken, we figured we’d make use of her over here instead!

Kait is also staff over with our good friends at Jellyneo!

Jose is officially our first ever male staff member! Congratulations on breaking that glass ceiling Jose! It’s a momentous day!

For a full updated list of current staff be sure to check the sidebar on the main part of the Lost and Pound!

Looking for a skill-free way to help us?

The number one thing EVERYONE can do is tell us the name of adopted pets you see while browsing around the site.  There are thousands of you and only a handful of us, and we simply cannot keep up with you guys!

For all of you who spend time browsing through looking for names or pets of the right age, or whatever, you’re clicking through tons of pets already, why not just copy and paste the names of the adopted into the form on the sidebar (send us a list of all of them, or in batches, rather than sending one form message per pet!) or emailed directly to lost AT quiggle.org 🙂

It’s easy, and it’s a MASSIVE help to us!

IP Banning

UPDATE:  We have now been contacted, and it looks like we may soon be unbanned!  Thanks to the support staff! We appreciate it! (Neopia.com.br has also gotten a reply!)

For the last couple of months (since some time around the AC this year) Neopets has been on and off IP banning various officially certified fansites. Included in this bunch have been the Lost and Pound, PetTP, Dress To Impress, and the Brazilian/Portuguese Neopia.com.br

DTI’s issues appear to have been resolved, at least for the meantime, but the rest of us are still affected, and see no end in sight!

We don’t know whether they are intentionally blocking us, or blocking us because they’ve mistaken us for cheating programs, which none of us are!  Either way they have not replied to tickets, emails, or FB messages from any of us fansite owners.  As a certified fansite owner, we have no way to contact anyone who actually works behind the scenes and may be able to quickly fix settings.

Since the end of July, it would appear that both PetTP and the Lost and Pound have been permanently IP banned, as it seems not a single attempt to contact the servers has worked throughout the last couple of weeks.

On PetTP this means that no one can even add a new pet, and all confirmed listings are broken, as all these features require PetTP contact and confirm information on the pets’ lookups!

On the Lost and Pound this just means that our grunt work is even more grunt filled than ever, but thankfully we can still continue to run the site, unlike PetTP.

After many months of dealing with this mess, we feel it’s time to come public with the information, and hope that you guys can help spread the word.  Perhaps the word will finally get back to the people at Jumpstart HQ, and we can be whitelisted.  (If anyone from Jumpstart/Neopets gets this and wants to contact us, lost at quiggle.org and neopia at outlook.com!!!)
